MIBG Positive: Good News, Bad News

It's never easy to hear that you have a positive finding on a scan, but now we know how much and its location. There were no surprises. The MIBG is picking up a few spots in the leg/hip area and one spot up around the right shoulder; that's all that's lighting up. These are the areas that have plagued Paul with pain off and on for a couple of weeks now. The bad news then, is that we have confirmed disease, but again...none of us expected a negative MIBG. The good news is that it makes complete sense to go forward with the new therapy starting Monday. It would have been perfect to stick it out with the VP-16, but I am thankful for the mileage we got out of it...almost 6 months. Now, we must switch gears and get things stomped out...although this too poses an interesting possibility. In order to qualify for the clinical trial there must be some measurable disease. The amount that is being detected is considered "minimal." That being the case, these drugs could eliminate it all together. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. For now, please pray that the new therapy will achieve its main goal (which is disease control), and that Paul won't suffer difficult side effects. We are leaning on the Lord to provide sustaining faith and endurance as we press on. Glad you are with us. (-:

Have a great week-end in SA. Paul, catch some fish with that Jeff Gordon fishing pole!
In constant prayer, Debbie
