NHRA Weekend!

A couple of weeks ago when Paul was in the hospital, a Cook Children's child life worker was able to get us some passes to the NHRA's (National Hot Rod Association) drag races South of Dallas. The Believe in Tomorrow National Children's Foundation not only got us tickets but also an amazing day of pit/garage tours, meetings/autographs with the top drivers and crews, a trip into the control tower where Paul was interviewed by the P.A. announcer to the crowd, lunch at the Champions Club, and frighteningly close seats at the start line. I'll be posting some photos this week of the action. Some of the highlights were meeting the entire Force family of racers. John Force is a 13-time champ and his three daughters, also drivers, are stars of A&E's TV hit show about the Force racing family, "Driving Force." I think he liked them. We also meet the 2005 Rookie of the Year, Robert Hight (pictured) and this year's points leader (so far), Doug Kalitta. All these people came out of their trailers and took time to talk with Paul, let him sit in their cars, Paul talked to the crew/mechanics, asked questions, and they just spent time with him. Our tour guide was really great and knew where to take us. It really was just a magical day.
Jack had a great weekend getting to go to two sleepovers to buddies having birthday parties (he was real tired today). I didn't take Whit to the race because the explosive noise would have sent him over the edge. He stayed home and helped Mom all day. We also helped "Miss Debbie" celebrate her 50th birthday (a surprise party that she somehow figured out!). It was a fun party for our dear friend. (-: Finally, we topped off the weekend with the whole family going to church and spending the rest of the day getting caught up on homework, playing in the great weather outside and relaxing. Now, hopefully we can look forward to a blessed, normal week here.
