A positive "positive"
UPDATE (8:30pm) - Paul received an IV dose of an anti-fungal nuclear weapon today - Amphotericin-B. The hardest part is that it causes fever and chills, which he got, but tonight he was doing pretty well. He should be able to switch over to a less toxic drug tomorrow (voriconazole) that he could take orally. Pray that he gets over this stuff right away. He has a kindergarten graduation to go to on Friday!!!
Few things good come from a 5am phone call...especially when it's coming from Cook in FW. So, they called this morning to let us know that Paul's culture was positive...but it wasn't bacterial. Instead it's fungal. This should be fairly easy to treat and Leigh will be heading up there this morning to start him on some anti-fungal meds. It's also behind the pain he's had in his esophagus. I say this is positive from the standpoint that we know it's not a side-effect of the chemo but rather immunosuppression. Leigh and I were both having a hard time seeing us put him through these drugs again. Now, we can be preventative. More later....
