Mixed Bag

At times this weekend Paul has felt good enough to construct his planes from Lego, eat out at a restaurant, decorate the Christmas tree, and play games. He did all of this still dealing with some pain, but it was better controlled by our better dosing schedule. However, at other times Paul was in a lot of pain or discomfort in various places (back, arm, leg), and he is dealing with post-chemo nausea. It is always hard to see him go through these times where he feels so bad.

The pain could certainly be a sign of disease, and we are expecting the MIBG (on Th) to at least show that his disease is once again on the prowl. I suppose there is the chance that once again we are dealing with pain caused by side-effects, but that chance just seems lower now. The main question now, of course, is "what next?" We do still want to pursue some other drugs that could help Paul (irrespective of scan results this week). Another question is what we need to do to control Paul's pain.

The times we have had with Paul lately where he has been his good ol' self are so precious given the uncertainty of the future with him. The Lord has heightened our sense of appreciation for what we have. Every minute is gold. I hope and pray they can go on and on. Pray against pain. Pray for healing. Pray for direction and options. The Lord makes things happen, and we trust in Him to provide. (-:

Our Gracious Heavenly Father
As we enter this beautiful holiday season, we praise you for the many blessings you have bestowed upon us...most especially, the blessing of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, whose birth we celebrate with joy and thanksgiving.
As we celebrate your Precious Son, we ask that you bless the sons that you hve so generously shared with Leigh and Terrill. Please bless and keep them. We know that they are really yours and that you love them more than any human could even imagine. We also know that, as our Father, You understand the love a parent has for his or her children.
We humbly ask that You be with the Saxon family, guiding them and giving them strength as they go through the difficult time. They have been so faithful to You, giving You all the glory even in the midst of the pain they so deeply feel as they watch Paul fight cancer and hurt and want to understand.
We ask that You place Your healing hand on Paul and cure him of the disease that is causing him pain. We ask that you provide guidance and direction for Leigh and Terrill as they make decisions that they never expected to have to make...wanting to do what is best for Paul and, at the same time, lifting him up to You as their Heavenly Father.
We ask that you give the entire family strength, understanding, reassurance and peace that only You can give.
Please let them feel You close, wrapping Your steady and strong arms around them, reminding them that You are loving them and guiding them now more than ever.
Please bless the medical team that is working so hard and leaning on you for guidance as they treat Paul and do all they can to make him well.
We praise You, God, for always being there for us, for loving us even though sometimes we disappoint You or question things that happen.
We give you the glory with thankful hearts. Amen

Terrill, Leigh, could Saint Judes in Memphis be of help to Paul? I know they treat pediatric cancers and some folks have had remarkable results there. My daughter who is a CCRN said that when she was at Methodist transplant center in San Antonio there was a Dr Bell who is a pullmonologist and a pain management specialist. She does not know if he sees children, but if he did you would receive great care. Also she worked with a Dr Goldberg who was an onocologist who was very good. Again Ally does not know if DR G. sees children. (Ally was in critical care with adult patients only.) My prayers are with you and for you and Paul, Jack and Whit.
God Bless
